According to National Association of Dental Plans 57-percent if Americans have benefited with their dental health insurance, where 96-percent of them gets their dental insurance coverage through their employers. As part of their innovative health care program Santa Clara County have sent 60-percent of low income families with dental insurances have sent their children to dentists. Numbers show that 22-percent of low-income children who are not subjected to dental insurance haven't made a trip to a dentist and only 16-percent received treatment.
Currently 10,000 low-income residents of Santa Clara County have participated in Healthy Kids, a county based insurance program which serves about 85,000 children in 30 of 58 California counties. The program was introduced in 2001 and currently receiving more members in their area. Children who are subjected in the Healthy Kids program are members of undocumented immigrants who's earnings are low and can't merely acquire dental insurance policies.
Cris Trenholm an associate director of research at Mathematica Policy Research in Washington, D.C., one of the authors of the study stressed out the great advantages of giving health benefits to the masses, especially dental insurance where children are the main beneficiaries. He stressed out that, it lessens larger and expensive problems down the road.
Trenholm also expressed that "Dental coverage is a powerful tool for relieving immediate suffering and improving children's health and well being."
